ببارید بر این کهنه ابریق

last friday morning i found myself irredeemably depressed and mad at everything and started driving recklessly towards salang. as it always happens in these circumstances, something primordial and animal and instinctive started pulling me north. i pushed on northwards and did not stop for anything or anyone, and slowed down only on the swerves of the road when the car came close to hitting the curbs or other cars. one should not drive in this state of mind. finally one of the tires gave way and i had to wait for someone to help, and then i turned back. and all the while, both on the way up and down, i was humming and occasionally singing aloud these two verses from that longer poem of abu talib mozzafari. i do not remember the rest and cannot find it online. sad. still, we all owe mozzafari a big vote of gratitude for having written down these two verses. i would still be grateful for this, even if he had not written anything else -and mozzafari has written a lot of good poetry.

ببارید ای ابر های جلالی
بر این کهنه ابریقِ خشکِ سفالی
ببارید تا آبرویش بریزد
چرا مانده این گونه از عشق خالی؟
