manama

before anything else, let’s agree to add this name to the list of beautiful place names.
*
i am in manama, bahrain. but my luggage is not. the process involving baggage transfer from kabul flights in dubai airport is awful and amounts to extortion. it has got to stop.
*
the missus is joining me tomorrow for what will hopefully be a second honeymoon already -since we liked the last one so much.
*
the weather is divine, and though i have arrived at night and have yet to look around, the place looks pretty nice. then, of course, there is the waterfront.
*
today on the flight i was reminded of those giant groups of geese (or whatever they actually are) which flew in triangle formations and we called them gala-e-qoto in watan. people threw their white hats up in the air thinking they would be able to distract them. it has been a while i have not seen those. wonder what happened to them. did they change their route? do they not migrate no more? that would be sad. i hope the gala-e-qoto returns again to the skies of watan because they were so beautiful and serene in their long, patient, unhurried flights and did wonderful things to your young heart as you stood there bewildered and mouth agape, staring up at the sky…
*
oh, and by the way, there is another event of sort that i cannot tell too much about on here. except that it has provided another welcome excuse to extricate myself from work and from kabul and engage in what promises to be stimulating exchanges with some smart folks.
*
also, just for the records, happy nawrouz!
