be scene

and so yet again i found myself in the bathroom flipping through the pages of the absurd little affair that is the afghan scene magazine and ‎happened upon the perfunctory monthly ‘be scene’ pages with the pictures of the expats ‎partying and trying to be happy, and what must be ‘the hardest working band in the ‎world’ (yes i ripped that off rody doyle’s the commitments) and all the while all i could think of was that line in the apocalypse now where the captain (sheen’s ‎character) muses to himself as he surveys the sorry lot of kilgore’s partying soldiers:
‎the more they tried to make it like home, the more they missed it.
and it made me kinda sad.
